Finding Me/Birthday Greet/High School Days

Let me take this time to greet my little sister, Nicolei, a happy 21st birthday. She likes to be a little more under the radar, which I admire because you really don’t see that in people anymore. She’s one of the many reasons why I love art. Her passion to see and learn different forms of art has made me look for new ways to interpret my own ideas. And although we have many differences in tastes in music, lifestyles, trends, etc., art has always brought us together. I can’t for her to come back from Rome!

Speaking of new art, I was drawing up this Fu Dog design for my brother. I was referencing it off an actual statue that he had. I liked the sketch in the beginning, but as I started with the details, my brother critiques it and says “It’s too ordinary.” He was right. I was trying to make it more of a tradition Japanese piece, but it doesn’t say “artwork by Chris”. I guess what I’m trying to get at is I have no style. I really don’t have artwork that stands out, that says “Chris did this”, you know? I think that’s also one of the reasons why I wanna see other people’s art is because I’m trying to figure out what makes their art unique in it of themselves. I have no idea what makes my art “me”. So… Yeah… That’s kind of where my head is at right now. Trying to find myself… within myself….

OK, so I was looking through my sketches from old High School art classes to find “myself”. So I may need help because I still can’t find it…
